Fairs and Festivals of Andhra Pradesh


The people of Andhra Pradesh celebrate a number of festivals in the whole year. Beginning from the month of January and till December the festivals are celebrated with pomp and show. These seasons also see a high tourist inflow in the state in order to rejoice at festivities. Some of these are mentioned below:

The Car Festival

This festival is celebrated in the months of January and February at Maddikera and is organized at Vanamalleswaraswamy Temple in the town. This festival witnesses a congregation of about 10000 devotees.

Visaka Utsav

This is a fair organized by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism every year in the month of January, from third Friday to Sunday (for a period of three days). This is one of the important festivals of Vishakhapatnam which is held on the Rama Krishna beach. A number of cultural programs, fashion shows and art exhibitions are organized during this time.

Makar Sankranti

This is another important festival for the people of Andhra Pradesh. The people from rural Telugu background began celebrating this festival at the time of harvesting the crop.

The Hyderabad Festival

This is one of the most famous festivals in Andhra Pradesh which is famous for music and dance. Hotels in Hyderabad see high rates of occupancy during this festival time during which they get the chance to witness amazing performance of traditional song, music and dances. Local artifacts and handicrafts are also available from all over the state at this festival.

Pongal

One of the most popular festivals of South India, Pongal is celebrated for the joy of obtaining bountiful crops. This is also celebrated in the month of January.

Batkamma

One of the foremost festivals in the Telengana region of Andhra Pradesh, Batkamma is a festival dedicated to Goddess Batkamma. In this the Goddess is worshipped and left afloat on water bodies such as lakes and rivers.

Brahmotsavam

The abode of Lord Venkateshwara, Tirumala, witnesses pomp and gaiety on an unprecedented scale at the time of festival of Brahmotsavam during which hundreds of thousands of people visit this place. Hotels in Tirupati, the city located close by, particularly witnesses high reservation numbers.
